SUPERSCRABBLE GAMES – 03-21-19 RESULTS

CONGRATULATIONS to the champions of the month: AMNON MEYERS and DAVID PODER.  Amnon won 3 games, played 13 bingos, and 3 category words; after all that, he got the highest total number of awards. David won 3 games, played 14 bingos, and 2 category words.

WELCOME to our latest newcomer, PETE SCAGGS, and congrats for playing the highest-point bingo word CORNIEST = 131.  Pete played a total of 8 bingos (award–ready for pick up on 4-25-19).

Two players submitted with equal scores for the high-point non-bingos: ALAN STERN for the word MISTAKE = 117, and TINA UDELSON for THERMAE = 117; I assume the words played took two moves.  ALAN got the High-Game=1160, and he also got the High-Cum, beating the 3-game winners with his High-Cum of 3110. TINA had the mostest bingos=15. Congratulations!  RENÉE KAHN did it again!  She played the highest number of category words = 9 words.

The following results are posted.  See the blog site: superscrabble.wordpress.com.  Please note that the 3-game winners cannot win the H-game and H-cum awards to exercise fairness to all players.  Category words: award is $5/word; 3-wins award is $25. The numbers can be determined only after carefully looking at the score sheets and comparing the results, hence the delay in the award.  Please make sure you check your envelope at the next Superscrabble Club games.

MARCH 21, 2019 – GAMES AT THE SUPERSCRABBLE CLUB

Standard

REMINDER:  March 21, 2019, Superscrabble Club Games.  The following infos are for the new comers.  Venue: 2130 Chandler Drive, Tustin, CA 92782.  10:00 pairing  begins; 10:15 first game starts. Lunch break: 12:15.  Afternoon games will start at 1:45. The timer is set at 50 minutes for each player.  Please confirm that you’re coming via email or text at 714-654-4308.

NEW WORDS ARE ACCEPTABLE FROM NOW ON effective March 2019.  All the NASPA’s new words are valid and playable in the Superscrabble Club.  However, there are some NEW short words added to the Superscrabble Club’s Official Word List.  I know this is a deviation from the NASPA’s rule, but it is necessary for our club, because it has been noted these words have existed and used very often among younger generation, as well as some older people since 1975 to the present day.  There are 17 short words I will add to the list of the Superscrabble Club; I will prepare the short list and include the meaning of each word.  Just visualize the words in GREEN color so you won’t get disoriented when you go back and play with NASPA’s serious people.

For your convenience, I will print out the list of new words from NASPA that includes the updates needed for the longer words on behalf of the Superscrabble Club. There are 3,490 combined, adding the longer inflections and variants on the words beyond 15 letters, and without the short new words that the Superscrabble Club will add (17 total) to the Word Judge for Clubs and Tournament, 2019 Edition.  Thanks to Amnon for contributing his compilation of new words, and to Gary Moss for the short words collected valid to play per the OSPD6 update.

The instant reward for finding 12- to 13-letter words is now worth $320. The pot for words with 14 to 15+ letters will have $420. This is not difficult at all; you’re allowed to signal your opponent that the short word you’ve just played played is a potential candidate to become a very long word; it is up to the players to build it up.  This Superscrabble Club is not a strict club.  Players are allowed to learn longer words, especially those words beyond 15 letters long.

To qualify for the assigned category-word award, the word must contain 5 letters or more. Winning 3 games gets a $25 reward.  To give chance to others, 3-game winners cannot have the high-game and high-cum awards.  Each bonus word played gets $1/word.  Please list all your category words on the stat sheet.

1st game categoryWords ending with “-ING” containing 5 or more letters.  Example:  AILING, AGING, ANGLING, CIRCLING, DANCING, BALLING, BLEEDING, BEING, BEADING, CRYING, COOING, DRYING, DIVING, DOING, EDGING, EATING, BATHING, FISHING, GARDENING, URGING, BAKING, PAINTING, MAILING, WALTZING, etc.

2nd game category:  ANATOMY words (this will also be an ALL DAY category):  STOMACH, INTESTINE, TEETH, EYELID, EYEBROW, HANDS, KNEES, EARLOBE, PANCREAS, SHOULDER, FINGER, TONGUE, MOUTH, THROAT, LIVER, HEART, BLADDER, SPLEEN, THORAX, EYELASH, FINGERNAIL, BRAIN, LUNGS, VAGINA, PENIS, KIDNEY, HEELS, HAIRS, ELBOW, CALVES, THIGH, MUSCLES, GLUTEAL, BUTTOCK, etc.

3rd game category:  PROFESSIONS::  BUSBOY, BUSGIRL, FORESTER, DOCTOR, NURSE, TEACHER, ENGINEER, ACCOUNTANT, SALESMAN, SINGER, DRUMMER, FARMER, DRIVER, POLICEMAN, DETECTIVE, JUDGE, RESEARCHER, etc.

THE NEXT GAMES WILL BE ON APRIL 24, 2019.  A reminder will be posted a week prior to the event.  Visit superscrabble.wordpress.com.
