SUPERSCRABBLE GAMES – 11-16-17

Standard

NOVEMBER 16, 2017, THURSDAY, 10:00a.m.  Due to delayed completion of our renovation at the usual venue, we are meeting again at the same location as last month:  Residence Inn by Marriott, 15181 Newport Avenue, Tustin 92780.  Their office phone is: 714-258-9700.  We’ll sing belated or advance “Happy Birthday” during lunchtime for those whose birthday falls in November:  RENÉE KAHN, EVELYN DAVIS, JOANNA COHEN, and NANCY BURCH.  There’s a special gift for all celebrants who are able to show up. TAKE a friend along to play; just let me know how many by Monday 11-13-17.

Please email maliha.mendoza@gmail.com, text 714-654-4308 or leave a voicemail soon.  On Monday 11-13-17, I need to submit the number of players who are attending the games to the Residence Inn coordinator, Janis Belote. We have a limit of 22 players.

The instant reward for a word with 14 to 15+ letters is now worth $100. It was previously mentioned that it will start with $5…but that was not an inspiring incentive.  An angel came to contribute the starting point to begin with $100.  The pot for 12- to 13-letter-word category will have $30 on 11-16-17.  To qualify for an instant reward, the word must contain 5 letters or more.  Winners of 3 games gets $25, and each bingo word is worth $1. Highest-point bingo is $5, high-point game is 1¢ per point [e.g.,1250 points = $12.50], highest-point cum is $10, and highest-point non-bingo word is $5.  Winners of 3 games are not qualified to win the high-point game and the high-point cum.  This is done so everyone will get a chance to win something and have fun. Study the assigned categories to enjoy more awards. THE EXAMPLES BELOW are incomplete; some singular or plural variants are missing.

Congratulationss to all winners!  We have two champions this week.  The winners of 3 games are Gary Moss, finishing 4 games with 13 bingos (he played a double during the 2nd round) Pat Reed is our second champion, finishing with 9 bingos after winning 3 rounds. Amnon Meyers won the highest point for a game during Round 1 = 1151; Amnon also got the high-point non-bingo word=120 for ZEROS, and total high-cum=3097, finishing 3 rounds with 12 bingos.  Several players, and these are not just ordinary players–these supercalifragilisticexpialidocious players played 19 assigned category words during the 3 rounds! Superscrabble Club joyfully distributed total prizes of $210.51 this week to all winners. $100 alone for all category words, including the 12- to 13-letter word played by Jeff Polan and Fern Trausch (players of long words put down together on the board customarily get to split the prize)–and the word is PROCREATIONS. It wasn’t as much as last time, which amounted to $140…but it’s an indication that players are really learning how to think of compounded and longer words.  It’s inspiring to dwell on the possibility that one of these days a 14-to 15+letter word could pop up on the 21×21 grid. The pot for this category is now $510.
